The three backend automations that quietly make daily sales: abandoned cart, failed payment dunning, and cold-subscriber re-engagement. Here’s how our mastermind built all three in a week.
I spent most of June in Santa Fe working about ten hours a week.
Not ten hours a day. Ten hours a week. The other 158 went to a sauna, a cold plunge, a morning hike, and a green-and-red-chile breakfast burrito the locals call “Christmas.” Then I came home, opened my sales tracker, and there it was: $222,841 in the last 30 days, on a 738-day streak of daily sales. Money every single day for just over two years, including the days I was ignoring my inbox on purpose in New Mexico.
Now let me ruin my own flex, because transparency is my whole thing. A big chunk of that 30-day number came from a launch with a JV partner. Real spike, not a normal month. So look one row down instead. Daily average over the last 365 days: $1,651. All-time daily average: $1,018. The partner didn’t do that. The machine underneath did. That’s what’s running on a random Tuesday in February when I’m not launching anything and definitely not posting on Instagram, which I quit in 2021 and still haven’t gone back to.
Money shows up on the quiet days because I built small, boring backend automations that sell when I’m not there. This month, inside The Room, we built the three that matter most. Here’s what they are, why the dull ones quietly outperform the flashy ones, and how 17 entrepreneurs built all three in a single week.

Table of Contents
Backend automations are pre-built sequences that run in the background of your business and recover or protect revenue without you touching them. You implement them once, connect them to a trigger like an abandoned checkout or a failed charge, and they send on their own. No live launch. No hand-typing “hey, your card declined” at 9pm.
Most people picture a welcome series when they hear “automation,” and then they stop there. The backend ones are different because they fire on a specific behavior: someone reaches your checkout and vanishes, a card expires mid-subscription, a subscriber goes quiet for ninety days. Each one catches money that’s already leaking out. That’s the difference between a business that only makes money when you’re working and one that keeps selling while you’re on a hike.
The unglamorous automations win because they operate on people who already want to buy. A live launch chases cold attention. These three sequences follow up with someone who loaded a cart, or whose payment you already earned, or who used to open every email you sent. Warm beats cold every time, and warm on autopilot beats everything.
Here’s the math that made me stop white-knuckling my calendar. Roughly 70% of online carts get abandoned before checkout, according to the Baymard Institute’s aggregate research . And email still returns around $36 for every $1 spent, the highest ROI of any channel. A sequence that quietly works those numbers in the background is where most of that return actually lives. You don’t feel it happening. You just notice the tracker kept climbing while you were gone.
The three we built are the small, load-bearing ones that print money in the background. Skip them and you’re leaving warm money on the table every week.
1. Abandoned cart. Someone gets to your checkout, gets pulled away by a child requesting a very specific snack in a very specific bowl, and disappears. This sequence follows up and brings a good chunk of them back. It’s the highest-leverage of the three for anyone selling a product, because these are people who got all the way to your payment page and meant to buy.
2. Failed payment dunning. A card expires, a charge bounces, a subscriber ghosts, and most people just eat the loss. Dunning (the polite, slightly persistent follow-up that chases a failed charge) recovers money you already earned. You’re not begging for a new sale. You’re collecting on one that already happened.
3. Cold-subscriber re-engagement and list prune. The fastest of the three to set up. A list clogged with people who never open you drags down your deliverability, which means the two sequences above can be flawless and still land in spam. You win back the maybes, clear out the ghosts, and everything you send starts hitting the inbox again.
You build all three by drafting each sequence in your own voice, connecting it to the right trigger in your email platform, and turning it on. The build is the whole job. After that, it runs without you.
The gap for most people has never been knowing. You’ve understood “you should have an abandoned cart email” for a year. It sits on your to-do list the way “clean the garage” does: theoretically, forever. So this month we closed that gap with structure and a deadline, and I handed everyone a shortcut I’d never shared anywhere else.
For each of the three automations, I built a custom Claude Skill. You paste in your brand voice, the Skill drafts the entire sequence in your words instead of sounding like a robot, and you tweak from there. The thing that used to eat a whole weekend now fits between school pickup and dinner. One automation a day, or all three in one quiet afternoon.
The best part of every Get It Done Week is the range of businesses that show up and actually do the work. This month, 17 entrepreneurs across completely different niches walked out with backend automations built and running. Weavers, therapists, health coaches, travel historians. Same result.

Abandoned cart, failed payment dunning, and cold-subscriber re-engagement. The first recovers people who reached checkout and left, the second chases failed or expired charges you already earned, and the third wins back quiet subscribers and prunes dead weight so your emails keep landing in the inbox.
About a week with a plan, or one focused afternoon if you move fast. Our mastermind built all three in seven days during Get It Done Week using a custom Claude Skill for each sequence that drafts the emails in your brand voice, so the writing takes minutes instead of a weekend.
Dunning is a short, polite follow-up sequence that triggers when a recurring charge fails, usually from an expired or declined card. Instead of eating the loss, it nudges the customer to update their payment so you collect money you already earned. Most businesses skip it and quietly lose revenue every month.
A list full of people who never open you drags down your sender reputation, which sends more of your emails to spam. Winning back the maybes and removing the ghosts improves deliverability, so your abandoned cart and dunning sequences actually reach the inbox and get clicked.
