Organic skin care is gentle on your skin and kind to the earth. If you are a busy mom who is looking to save time and money while also using organic skin care, this list of 4 brands will help you transform your routine to become more eco-friendly.
Green beauty and organic skin care aren’t just new trends hitting the skincare market. They’re transforming the way we take care of ourselves and our environment. Tossing your old products in favor of new, eco-friendly options can be a big investment of time and money — something busy women don’t want to clear their schedules for.
Making the switch to green cosmetics can be a big investment of time and money, but not only is it worth it, this list is going to help you save time and money because we’ve got special discount codes for you and we’re giving you the best of the best.
And the best part is, I’ve tried them all! I used to run a holistic wellness blog that covered lots of green beauty topics and have tried everything. So you can say, I’ve done all the research for you.
Organic skin care routines are made up of all-natural beauty products that are formulated without harsh and toxic chemicals or synthetic ingredients. Most are produced by companies who truly prioritize the environment and utilize sustainable manufacturing and packaging methods. Some even include food-grade ingredients, plant extracts, and natural oils.
Those with sensitive skin can turn to organic skin care products for relief from irritation. Because they formulate the products without toxins, they’re much gentler on your skin.
After my Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) diagnosis in 2015, I started to get into organic skin care. I was battling some serious adult acne around the time of my diagnosis and turned to organic skin care for relief. Honestly, I wouldn’t have been able to get my skin to its current healthy state without these clean, green products.
Within the green beauty movement, there are green cosmetics, like foundation or lipsticks, green haircare, like shampoo or styling creams, and green skincare, like cleansers and moisturizers. You don’t have to overhaul your self-care routine all at once! Start slowly by incorporating some organic skin care into your daily beauty routine, then slowly expand to the rest of the green beauty world.
Save yourself time on money on your beauty routine so you have more time for other pursuits. If you share the same values as me about beauty and self care, then we might have the same values in business. Check out my free webinar today!
Why Should You Try Organic Skin Care?
Trust me — organic skin care isn’t just a fun new trend that’ll fade in a matter of months. These products are well worth the investment and the skincare spotlight. Read on for some of my favorite reasons why you need to add organic skin care to your makeup bag ASAP.
Organic Skin Care Is Less Likely to Irritate Your Skin
I mentioned this earlier, but it’s time to dive deep. Organic skin care is so much less likely to irritate your skin than the standard products you see in stores. Many people don’t even know they have an allergy or sensitivity to a skincare chemical until they use a new product with it! Natural cosmetics seriously reduce your risk (stay away from the stuff you know you’re allergic to, though).
I’m sure you’ve heard of the so-called wonders of retinoids by now. They’re super popular skincare ingredients that heal acne and dark spots, speed up skin cell turnover, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. But did you know that one of the most common retinoids, tretinoin, is super irritating and can cause dryness, peeling, and create a burning sensation on your skin?!
Sure, the ingredient works fairly quickly, but it can cause a lot of irritation in the process. Going a natural route may take longer to see results. But you’ll have a much smoother path there — your skin will thank you!
They’re Better for the Environment
Organic skin care products aren’t just eco-friendly because they use simple ingredients. The choice to go all-natural sidesteps chemical manufacturing processes and produces less environmental harm. Chemical sunscreens in particular can damage marine life and coral reef ecosystems, and exfoliating microbeads (aka microplastics) can end up coating plant life.
Plus, brands who commit to sustainable products often commit to sustainable packaging, too. And not just your standard recyclables like cardboard and plastic. Many have switched to biodegradable packaging or glass packaging, which can be cleaned and reused in a variety of ways.
You know the saying “beauty is pain?” Well, beauty isn’t worth exposure to harsh chemicals. Honestly, a natural, green beauty-based routine is much more beautiful (and keeps our planet beautiful, too).
Skin is the largest organ in the human body and absorbs whatever you put on it. Phthalates, which can be found in deodorants, lotions, and glitter-based eyeshadows, are known hormone disruptors (which have become my worst enemies since getting diagnosed with PCOS) . Wouldn’t you rather layer on kind, gentle ingredients instead of toxins that damage your health?
4 Organic Skin Care Brands to Add to Your Beauty Routine
Ready to make the switch? Here are four of my favorite organic skin care brands that I use in my own beauty routine. Take this as your list of vetted, premium brands to buy — from one woman on a time crunch to another.
Beautycounter
Are you worried that your standard products will work better than organic skin care at fixing your skin concerns? Beautycounter is here to prove you wrong. Their vast selection of products actually work and they’re still gentle on your skin!
The brand is committed to creating beauty products that put your health first. They have a list on their website of 1,800 ingredients that will NEVER be used in their products (and yes, phthalates are on there!). Plus, they have rigorous third-party screening practices that test new ingredients for possible harm.
Not only are Beautycounter’s products toxin-free (and tested!), responsibly sourced, and sustainably packaged, but they are beautiful, they actually WORK, and they rival all of my previously favorite Sephora brands. It’s a win in my book!
Maya Chia’s products all use chia seeds as one of their main ingredients (yes, the same thing you put into your smoothies in the morning). Chia seed oil has tons of antioxidants, essential minerals, and omega-fatty acids that your skin will love. They source the oil through patented supercritical extraction that keeps the power of the chia seed intact while keeping out harmful solvents.
Chia seed oil boosts your skin’s hydration levels and can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, making Maya Chia’s organic skin care ideal replacements for standard anti-aging products. My favorite is their retinol-alternative serum, Straight A: it got rid of my dark spots and acne scars like nothing else!
True Botanicals
True Botanicals transformed my skin. Seriously! Their CLEAR Line is the only line of ANY skin care that healed my acne and stopped my breakouts entirely. At first, it felt too good to be true, but True Botanicals has stood the test of time!
They use vitamin- and antioxidant-rich ingredients that feel luxurious but are natural and safe for your skin. They use powerful botanical extracts to soothe your skin and fix all of your skincare woes. Their ingredients are all organic and wild-harvested. They grow the products in safe, natural environments and they are GMO-free.
True Botanicals is seriously committed to preserving our planet. They’re Made Safe Certified, meaning over 6,500 harsh chemicals will never make it into their products. And they have a Leaping Bunny cruelty-free certification to boot.
Aillea
If you live around Denver, Atlanta, Raleigh, Charlotte, or Charleston, Aillea is THE place to shop for green cosmetics and skincare. But don’t worry! If you’re not local, you can shop their website to get all the green beauty goodness (busy moms, take note).
All of the products (which cover many brands, including some of my favorites like Ilia) at Aillea’s brick-and-mortar and online shops are safe, natural, and gentle. The shop features only cruelty-free, toxin-free products. They have a list of over 1,300 banned ingredients that they will never sell. I personally use their Ilia’s liquid skin tint and Ilia’s hydrating lip balmevery single day. It’s literally a one-stop shop for organic skin care!
By now, your makeup bag is begging for an overhaul. Fill it with organic skin care to show your skin and the planet true love and kindness.
