I’ve shared income reports for the past few years, but it’s time for them to come to an end. Here’s how I came to such a difficult decision.
For the last few years, I’ve shared monthly income reports outlining the revenue for my business. And at first, I really enjoyed it! I loved showing other entrepreneurs exactly how I made money in my online blogging business.
My goal always has been and always will be to teach you how YOU can make money by blogging and doing what you love. But after a while, sharing my income reports just didn’t feel right anymore. I know that there are better ways I can serve you.
I started as a journalist back in 2010, ditching my office gig after a few months to go freelance and travel the world as a food writer (aka my dream job!). As a freelancer, I was published in over 125 magazines, newspapers, and websites, and even wrote my own cookbook.
But in 2015, I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and hypothyroidism. That led me to start Root + Revel, a holistic wellness blog focused on helping others find true mind-body-soul harmony.
In the seven years since, I’ve launched multiple online courses that now live inside my Success with Soul Incubator, had two wonderful children (and made nearly $200,000 during my maternity leaves), created a podcast, and even sold my original Root + Revel blog for multiple six figures. Seriously…a journey!!
Now, I’m regularly bringing in nearly $50K each month while running my business from a place of balance, soul alignment, and NO burnout. My goal of empowering others hasn’t changed, even as I’ve shifted from being a blogger to thriving as a coach and entrepreneur. What has changed, though, is my desire to not share my income reports any longer.
When I Started Sharing My Income Reports, I Wanted to Inspire Others…
I’ve been reading other bloggers’ income reports for years (Pinch of Yum, Smart Passive Income, Show Me the Yummy, and Making Sense of Cents are favorites!) and always found them so inspiring. They helped me know what’s truly possible in the world of blogging, and their openness in sharing their mistakes and successes along the way was so encouraging.
When I started sharing my own income report blog posts, I wanted to do the same thing! I knew that I had something valuable to share with the world about making money online, and I wanted to help others learn how they can build a life they truly love.
…But I Had Other Goals for Sharing My Income Reports Online
Beyond just hoping to inspire others, I had some major goals with sharing a blog income report. The intent was never to brag, show off, or pat myself on the back each month (though you should always celebrate your successes!). There have been some tough, disappointing months along the way, and sharing those stories was just as important as sharing my big wins. My goal in sharing my blog income reports was three-fold.
Firstly, I just wanted to help anyone interested in starting a blog learn the ropes and find the inspiration and motivation to really work at it. I know from experience that blogging can change your life, whether that’s through finding a creative outlet, getting some extra cash, or launching your own business for financial freedom. In sharing my story, I wanted my transparency to help YOU achieve your dreams.
On top of that, I wanted to show fellow skeptics (yes, I used to be one of you!) that it was possible to make money through blogging and to do it with integrity. Back when I was a full-time journalist, I would turn my nose up at bloggers, especially when they were running their blogs with zero transparency and no business mindset. But I’m here to show you that it’s possible to actually keep your soul intact while running an online business.
And honestly, I wanted to help myself by sharing income report blog posts. A little bit of selfish motivation is okay here! Putting income reports together each month became a really great way for me to reflect on my business. I could see what was and wasn’t working, and learn from my mistakes as I celebrated my wins.
Why I Won’t Share a Blog Income Report Anymore
Now, though, it’s time for me to stop sharing my income report on the blog. It was a challenging decision, but it’s the right one for me and my business. Here’s why you won’t be seeing any more blog income reports from me (but don’t worry — I’ll still be staying totally transparent and keeping you in the know about what’s going on in the backend of my business!).
There’s Too Much Focus On Revenue
When I began sharing my blog income reports, I wanted to inspire others, show them what was possible online, and keep myself motivated on this journey. But now, the digital marketing space is all about revenue. It’s numbers first over there, and that’s just not who I am.
My focus is on soul.I love highlighting the less tangible results that you can get from running a blog online, like fulfillment, joy, and excitement. That’s why I started the Success with Soul Incubator, a coaching and mastermind program to help businesswomen thrive as soul-aligned CEOs. In the Incubator, we combine business strategy with personal development, wellness, and community.
It’s my mission to truly revolutionize the way women live and grow their careers. Focusing solely on revenue is just not the way to do it. There are so many other ways to measure success outside of business revenue. Honestly, your income is such a small part of it!
Think about how you’re giving back, making the world a better place, and investing in yourself and your relationships. Knowing what extraordinary success means to YOU will help you find fulfillment outside of your numbers. We work on defining your own vision of success inside the Success with Soul Incubator so you can align your business with your values.
I’ve Seriously Diversified My Business
Back when I first started sharing my income report blog posts, I was just running my wellness blog. I didn’t have my podcast, the Success with Soul Incubator, or any of my other offerings.
Now, I prefer to make money alongside my blog by:
selling my own offers
partnering with affiliates
taking on sponsors
and more!
I’ve found that those are the fastest ways to monetize a blog (especially selling my own products) and have brought me a ton of success.
I have so much more going on in my business that a blog income report doesn’t capture the full picture. And honestly, it just got too confusing!
When I was still posting the reports, I had two businesses, which seriously complicated the process. It was always difficult to write up the reports. I couldn’t decide if I should write a report for just one business, combine them, or have two separate reports. Since I sold my original blog I only have one business, but a blog income report doesn’t give a full view of my business with all of my revenue streams.
Sharing My Income Reports Just Doesn’t Feel Right
To be honest, sharing my income reports just doesn’t feel right anymore. And you know that I’m all about trusting your gut and doing what feels good to you.
The more I practice following my intuition and the more I teach others how to connect with their own inner voice, the more certain I am that I don’t want to share my income report blog posts any longer. In this season of life, I do not want to focus on revenue, and income reports put revenue in the spotlight. Maybe I’ll start sharing them again one day, but it’ll be when it’s right for me.
At the start of my journey of sharing my blog income reports, I wanted to inspire other businesswomen with my success and encourage them to keep really working at blogging. But as the years have gone on, posting my income reports has felt less and less connected to who I am and what I value most.
I want to practice what I preach in the Success with Soul Incubator and lead a business that is aligned with what feels good in my soul. To live the life you’ve been dreaming of by running a profitable, burnout-free online business, enroll in the Incubator now.
